How about a day off

Good morning sunshine! Time for a good cup o' coffee.

I do so enjoy days off from work even though it means I come home and... work.  :)

Lots of laundry to be done, run errands, maybe get through the pile that keeps growing on my desk (maybe not.) Maybe I will take time to get a haircut (currently undecided about that.)

It's all good because I get to spend time with some of my very favorite people.  ❤

This will probably include but definitely not be limited to playing with play dough, baby dolls, Littlest Pet Shops, maybe some trampoline jumping and lots of silliness. If I'm lucky a nap will happen somewhere in there.
What if we make some cookies...

Endless possibilities in a day off.

What will we have for dinner tonight? I'll have to get back to you on that one.
After dinner, we get to enjoy an encouraging meeting. Brittany has a part, so hopefully Mark will be up to going today.
It's supposed to be another fabulous fall day!

I hope you have a good one.

To code or not to code...

So I found this blog template that I absolutely LOVE! What do you think of it? I think it's really cute except that the date is not working... Hence the big "Undefined" at the top left of every post. And some of the fonts are not right in my opinion. I think titles should be bigger, as well as the regular post font. So bear with me as I fix it up around here. I might have to break down and have Mark fix the date thing for me, but I think I'll be able to figure out the rest.  HTML, here I come!!  I think it will be fabulous when I get it all done.  :)

Have a wonderful day!!

Gotta LOVE a good weekend

On Saturday...
The girls and I went for a fabulous drive!

Lovely Colors of Fall
Beautiful Blue Water

Cows say "MooOOo"

We drove up to Dad & Mom Maxfield's
for a fun visit....

"Snakes, I hate snakes!"
How cute is Maggie the dog...

Okay Buck, I love you too!  LOL
Brittany rides first, as she has some experience.
Check out Buck grabbing the reign.
"Come on Tank, let's go this way."

Of course Sydney INSISTS that she do everything Brittany is doing!

How about all three...  LOL

Sydney finally stopped yelling and gave Grandma Linda a smile.
So she gets a turn by herself.  Hold on tight!  :)
Horses,
horses,
horses...
Check out the look on Sydney's face.
She thinks Grandpa Paul is pretty cool!

Madi watched Brit very closely
so she'd know how to show Tank who's boss.
She did very well.  :)
"Hey horsey! That's my shoe!"  LOL
Thanks so much,
Grandpa Paul &
Grandma Linda!
Even though we don't make it up there often, we always love spending time with you when we do.   OXO

Finally Madi's turn to go by herself.

Madi watched Brit very closely
so she'd know how to show Tank who's boss.
She did very well.  :)

We made it home just in time for Mom to drop the girls off at Grandma Marge & Claudette's for pizza & a movie.
Then Mom was off to work for a few hours.
Obviously this was very much a girls day.
The boys were on their own. :)

Sunday was a great day too!
The girls and I sat down to have breakfast and study for the meeting. Then haircuts for the guys. They look so handsome! Time for meeting.
After meeting, Brittany went to ANOTHER meeting. :) She is trying to get fluent in speaking Spanish. She has learned all the basics, so now she spends her Sunday afternoons at the Spanish meeting. She has made some friends and everyone is very willing to help her learn Spanish, especially if she will help them with their English. She has a great time. :)
While she was there, the rest of us went to Starbucks together for some tasty beverages. Mmmm...
Later we were all home together! That is rare these days. :)  Pork chops for dinner & our family study.
Then Christian went to hang out with friends. The girls and I watched Leap Year. Excellent romantic comedy, by the way.
I got a visit from a friend, and finally bedtime. Aaaahhh

And now it is Monday...
since we had so much fun the house is a MESS!!
Guess I'd better get busy. :)

Close Encounter of the Creepy Kind...

Yesterday my girls and I went to Smiths in the morning to pick up some snacks for our drive to Wallsburg. Just going about our business... picking out drinks, crackers, and then the candy aisle. A man followed us down the candy aisle (for all I know he may have been following us before that, but this is when we first noticed him.) Brittany moved the girls out of the way and told him to go ahead. He stopped right next to them and said "it's okay I'm looking at this." Seemed kind of weird, but the girls caught up with me and we continued.
Next we needed to get a juice box for Sydney. Juice is in an aisle at the OPPOSITE end of the store. We head down there looking for the juice boxes and suddenly the same man comes walking down THAT aisle, slowly passes us and stands right next to us looking at the diet drink mixes (Crystal Light and such, he did not seem like the Crystal Light drinking type.) Brittany and I looked at each other, thinking the same thing... this is getting creepy. I moved the little girls to the other side of me while I quickly grabbed the juice and we left.
We went to a checkstand and Brit kept an eye out for the guy. He lingered around the self checkout looking a bread and stuff while we waited in line at a different checkstand. Then as we were paying, he went through the self checkout. So as we left the store, HE FOLLOWED US OUT! As we hurried and got in the car he said, "I promise I'm not stalking you." Maybe he wasn't, and maybe it was a complete coincidence, but this was an eye opener for me and a good lesson for the girls.
As close as he was hanging around, if I had let Madi look at something at the other end of an aisle like she does sometimes, he could have had her around the corner and gone in a matter of seconds, while I read a label or something.

Had I been thinking, I would have gone down the diaper or feminine hygiene aisle to see what would happen, even snapped a pic with my phone, or took down his license plate # (since he was parked right next to us.) But we just wanted to hurry out of there!

I will admit, when I hear about kids being abducted in stores, I tend to think... "the parents should watch their kids better." Well, from now on I will be watching my kids a bit closer and have talked to the big ones about keeping the little ones close if they are out together.

Buddy system, holding hands, all that good stuff that my mom taught us kids is very important for all kids to follow at all times. Maybe this guy wasn't a creep, just weird, but there are creeps out there, so be careful! Life as we know it can change in an instant.

What if this song were playing at your workplace...

So, I LOVE the current playlist at work. 50's & 60's music that we all know. It's fun to work to. But I find it interesting to have "Chain Gang" playing several times a day, AT WORK.  LOL
Obviously my job is a lot more fun than working on a chain gang. But, it IS work.  :)

Another song that we all know by Sam Cooke is (What a) Wonderful World. Good stuff!

I hope you have a wonderful day. oxo

My Youngest Photographer

As the youngest, my 2 1/2 year old Sydney loves to do what everyone else is doing. No baby games here. She is a big girl, just like her sisters. So today was picture day around the yard. Of course every good photographer knows that the best smiles come from their subjects saying, "CHEEEEESE."

Here she is setting the example. Everybody say cheese!

Now if you can do an awesome pose, even better!

Sydney says, "Say cheese, flower."

Apple

"Say cheese, Mom."
Unfortunately you are missing my fabulously cheeeesy grin.  :)

"Say cheese, Bug."
As you can see, the bug is really into it. No shame.  :)

Girls just want to have fun....

Yesterday after the meeting Mark and the big kids were gone and/or busy with their own activities, so my little girls and I went on an adventure together.

First a stop at Starbucks to get tasty beverages.
(This is actually the store that I work at in Layton.)

Then to the mall to get $6 Wallflowers from Bath & Body Works.
I LOVE these air fresheners! Yesterday was the last day of the sale, so we had to stop.

Of course while we were at the mall, we went into Claire's because what girl doesn't like to look at accessories of all kinds? Sydney learned how to POINT at things that she liked instead of grabbing everything in sight. This store could have been a disaster with a 2 year old, but she actually did really good. We got out with one colorful giant bead bracelet. Sydney is still wearing it this morning.

Continuing on our Sunday drive South, we saw the cloud of smoke coming from who knew where. Madi looked on the KSL website on my Iphone to find out that there was a big fire in Herriman.
It is still burning this morning with 1500 people evacuated from their homes. Hoping the weather cooperates so they can contain the blaze.
Anyway... we ended up at the Gateway in Salt Lake. We love the Gateway.

Barnes & Noble was our first stop. Books are the best! Both of the girls read aloud to me at the same time. Not really sure what the books were about, but I love hearing their voices. :) Madi found a sequel to a book she'd already read, so she was very excited about that. And we picked up some number and color books for Sydney.
By the time we left there, we discovered that everything was closing. It was Sunday after all.

Time to start heading homeward. But we were hungry. Mimi's Cafe in Layton would be the place for dinner. We had a lot of fun there sharing delicious food. Before we left Sydney even did a little bit of dancing. They were playing some good jams.

Finally a stop at Walmart to pick up some necessities. And some fancy dress shoes for Sydney. She is wearing those this morning along with her new bracelet.
A FABULOUS TIME WITH MY TWO LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS!!

At home... put the girls to bed. Spend some quality time with my best friend before nodding off to sleep.
Zzzzzz.......

Chainsaw Massacre!

These trees were ugly in the first place but I'm not really understanding the point of hacking off every branch you can reach with a chainsaw. The trees aren't close to the road where branches would be scratching cars and there weren't any branches close to the ground.

What actually NEEDED to be done (and what I thought he was coming to do,) was to cut back the 30 or so overgrown bushes and the Virginia Creeper & Honeysuckle that is overtaking them.

And how about the 60 or so Rose bushes that make the backyard dangerous for the kids to play in?  What kind of person puts a GIANT Rose garden in the MIDDLE of the yard anyway? Whenever I buy a $2 ball at the grocery store for Sydney, I can count on it lasting MAYBE 3 minutes in the back yard. This is why I buy the cheap ones. :)

So it's nice that my Landlord came to do some work. But, I guess I'm not really understanding his vision of what the yard should look like.

Sleepovers are definitely fun for kids....

But, apparently it is impossible for them to be quiet no matter how hard they try. So today... mom is tired and ornery.
I don't mind that they have sleepovers. I enjoyed them when I was growing up. But WOW. Coming home from work to the fun in progress doesn't really allow for a calm wind down.
Then there is the continued "whispering." LOL  And door/cupboard slamming. (why is there always door slamming?)
I'm glad they had fun, but it's quiet time now. Don't bug me!  :)
Time for coffee...

Advanced age does not a supervisor make....

Just because someone is older than their peers does not necessarily mean they automatically have the skill set to supervise and/or manage. It's amazing to me how many people are promoted simply because they are the oldest. Despite the fact that they are afraid they might make someone mad, lack time management skills, just don't care about customer service as much as getting tasks done, and/or don't care about the bottom line.

Generally, once you become a supervisor your position becomes more about people. The "I just work here" attitude doesn't work anymore. It takes a little more effort, time, brain power, caring, etc. You are the one that is supposed to make sure everyone on your shift is giving the best customer service while at the same time making sure all of the other crap gets done. That is what a supervisor does! And how about actually following the company policies that you get paid the big bucks to enforce? Just sayin'...
